In last two weeks, I mainly focus on the following things 1. developing coupling capacitance for package routing a. Large number of experiments with Fastcap have been conducted to study the possible rules for capacitance extraction of arbitary angle routing. Following useful observations have been found, -When the angle between two coupling segments is smaller than 45 degree, adjacent segments have little impact on the coupling capacitance, smaller than 15%. -Grounding capacitance has similar behavior. -Cross coupling capacitance is much smaller than direction coupling capacitance (<10%). -Coupling and grounding capacitance change smoothly with distance and angle. -Coupling capacitance between planes depends on the routing density but little on routing detailed routing patterns. b. Based on the observation above and for the ease of capacitance distribution, following extraction scheme is adopted and implemented. -Traces are divided into small segments (200um) -Coupling capcitance is only extracted to directly adjacent segments by table lookup. -Ground capacitance is extracted segment by segment with considering directly adjacent segments by table lookup -Coupling between plane plates are extracted by table lookup. c. capacitance tables are technology dependent: -Coupling and grounding table: *dimensions: layer, distance and angle -Plane table: *dimensions: layer, density. 2.
